Ed Rush is a British producer that was catalyst of the dark-step movement. A mutation of the drum and bass formula, he opted for dense textures rather than simple jungle breaks, and his Macs to power his music rather than the traditional 1200's with dub plate.

His early collaborations with sound engineer Nico yielded critical acclaim for the creative use of eerie vocal samples and swirling breakbeats.

Indeed so, this album 'Torque' on Nico's No-U-Turn label was hailed by many as a landmark album in the course of development/mutation of drum and bass. Their creative partnership spawned countless imitators with average horror movie dialogues and well, cheap imitations. Ed Rush subsequently partnered up with Optical to take his brand of drum and bass to another level.

The music might sound as if Rush and Optical had got stuck in a 90s time capsule, however, from the opening blast to the final hi-hat crash, the music was one pure non-stop adrenaline rush, yet with enough menace to keep the listener on the edge.
