Label - Phonetic Recordings

Label Bio

In it’s first three years Phonetic Recordings established itself as one of the world’s leading Dance labels. Formed by CEO/Director Rob Roar in late 2001.

Rob has worked for some of House Music’s pioneering labels including Head of A&R stints at Slip ‘N Slide/Kickin and Global Cuts…the house imprint of the infamous R&S Records in Belgium with Rob playing a big part in helping the label achieve the status they hold today.

Phonetic stamped their name firmly in Dance Music History by smashing the record books when they became the first label in the world to deliver 3 No.1 records in Ibiza in three consecutive years (2001 Max Linen ‘The Soulshaker’, 2002 Max Linen ‘Paradiso Del Mundo’ & 2003 Kujay DaDa ‘Young Hearts’). An amazing feat. when you consider the sheer volume of material that every top producer/label on the planet ploughs into the white isle over the summer season to try and achieve that accolade once. No one else has achieved it twice, let alone 3 times.

IBIZA 2004 see’s Phonetic achieve 3 records in the Ibizan DJ Mag hype chart (July 04) & 3 records in the August issue (the only label to do so). The record hailed as the probably the biggest of Ibiza 2004 by the industrys main players was Max Linen’s ‘Flashback’ which hit the No.2 spot in DJ’s Ibiza Mag Hype Chart - Aug ’04 & No.2 Pete Tong’s DMC ‘Ibiza Buzz Chart’ on the Radio 1 Ibiza Weekend off only a handful of CD’s.

Back in the UK every release has ridden high at the very top of the Buzz, Coolcuts & UK Club Charts with each record in turn being released & then becoming a big record in almost every territory on the planet.

Towards the end of 2004 Phonetic decided to step things up after hitting the UK National Chart top 40 with Kujay DaDa’s ‘Young Hearts’ (Co-released with Phonetic/Nebula/Virgin EMI). 2004/2005 saw the Phonetic Recordings co-release their hits after initial release with the likes of Positiva/EMI, Manifesto/Universal, Virgin, Ten, Sony & BMG across the globe.

2006 see's Phonetic raising the bar even higher, with our strongest release schedule to date...Every release will be doing some serious dancefloor damage near you soon!
