Global Underground is a series of progressive house compilation albums reflecting a performance of a high profile DJ in venues from around the world. The name of the series gives reference to the albums' removal from typical mainstream dance music and the fact that each album is recorded at a different exotic location around the world, which often influences the tone of the music. Global Underground is arguably one of the first high-profile DJ mix series that has enjoyed international success. The series has now spawned a label that puts out tracks appearing on the albums, singles from some of Progressive House's most sought after artists. In addition, albums from such luminaries as Sasha, Trafik, Pako & Frederik and Unkle have been relased outside of the GU Boxed brand.
