Established by Ralph Lawson, music producer and resident DJ at the legendary Back to Basics club in Leeds, the label was primarily designed to be an outlet for the hybrid sounds that he produced with then-partner Carl Finlow. In the time-honoured tradition of house music, they decided to ‘do it themselves’ and set up the label in 1995. The idea was to produce quality electronic music that appealed to a multitude of people from different scenes. The first 10 singles were produced by Lawson and Finlow (Wulf n Flow) and gained respect from a diversity of international artists, such as Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Ron Trent, Derrick Carter, Frankie Knuckles and Junior Vasquez. Other clients quickly included labels such as, Soma, Slip n’Slide, F-Comm, Playhouse, SSR, Turbo and Minifunk.

Since those early days the label has grown to encompass over twenty international artists; each with their own individual take on the 2020 sound, from Random Factor’s classic, deep, electro house, to Dubble D’s leftfield jazziness and from the funk of Silver City to the deepness of Fred Everything.

As well as new up-and-coming artists wanting a piece of the 2020 action, a diversity of established producers and vocalists have been attracted to the label; recording original work for us, remixing existing 2020 tracks, or adding their vocal magic to the mix.
