FAQ

We have a short manual available for download. It requires Adobe PDF Reader, which you can obtain for free from Adobe.

Compatibility

MP3 Players
The music downloaded from mosdownload.com is compatible with all MP3 players including your iPod.

Flash 8
This is not a requirement since you can still use system's default player is to listen to track samples (e.g. Winamp, Real Player, iTunes) but if you want to use our cool player you need to download and install Flash 8. It's worth it...

The 'My Account' Section

Preferences
You can tailor the site to your needs. We don't want to waste your time by showing you adverts for tracks or albums that you won't be interested in so make sure you set your genre preferences and keep these updated.

We'll only show you adverts for the genres you're interested in or that are relevant to the pages that you are browsing.

Pick the format you buy most of so that you don't have to use the price drop-downs unless you want to change the format for a particular purchase.

If you have flash, use our specially designed player to get the most out of mosdownload.com - more info on how to use the player can be found here

Recommended for You
When you first log in, we will show you a chart of 10 tracks that we think you'll be interested in based on your purchase history and genre preferences.

This chart is 100% live so as soon as you put something into your cart or buy something, we learn a bit more about you and the "Recommended for You" chart will update - you might never need to leave this page!

Help & Information
At the bottom of the left hand panel, there is a Help & Information section where you can:

  • Send us Feedback
  • Look at your order history and create a VAT invoice
  • Use a Gift Voucher
  • Recommend a Friend

Finding Music

How Do I Search?
The site is set up to make it as easy as possible for you to find what you want:

  • Searching is just a matter of typing in keywords. If you don't select anything from the drop-down box, the site will search all fields for your keywords.
  • You can narrow down the search by selecting 'Artist', 'Title' or 'Label' from the drop-down box.
  • You can search on partial phrases

How do I surf the site.
There are quite a few browsing options available and they all do something a little different so we'll run through them one at a time:

Channels
The Channels are based on your favourite music or clubbing brands and are designed to make it easy for you to identify the style of music you like best without being a dance music trainspotter.

  • Clicking on the channel will take you through to a page where we'll recommend three great albums and five singles in that channel.
  • If you click on the main channel graphic on this page, we'll explain what the channel is about and give you a bit of channel news.
  • At the bottom of the page, you can click through to more recommended tracks in the channel and finally, if you really want to go for it...
  • You can view all the music in the style.

Top Searches
Looking for classics, the most upfront tracks, the coolest cuts from the world's best underground clubs or simply some great albums to give your music collection a facelift…

  • All Time Classics - does exactly what it says on the tin... from Paul Van Dyk's 'for an angel', to new classics like David Guetta vs The Egg 'walking away'.
  • New Releases - you pick it... how far do you want to go back? What genres? If you're a DJ or just want to browse for the latest stuff, this is for you.
  • Inside Edge - Ministry of Sound Download is brought to you in conjunction with djdownload.com, the world's best DJ-focused store. The 'Inside Edge' are the tracks that are moving and shaking on djdownload.com, this is what the tastemakers are saying!
  • Top Albums - The best selling albums over the last week, and the best selling albums ever!

By Genre
Similar to the Channels, browsing by genre is a great way to find what you're after. There are featured track spots, the best selling labels in the genre and links through to tracks and genre charts.

Albums
There are loads of great albums on the site with everything from compilations to exclusive mixes. Clicking on a genre under Albums will take you to a return of all albums in that genre on the site.

How do I see what's on the album?
Click on the name of the album to go to the album details screen. The album details screen will have a description of the album, a track list (and if the individual tracks are available, you can listen to the samples for each track).

It's a double mix album and all I can see is two tracks - why?

A double mix album is simply a bundle of the 2 mixes, kind of like a double CD. If you go into the track list and click on the title of one of the mixes making up the album, you will be able to see the album details for that mix.

Be careful though, if you do want to buy the double album as a package, you need to go back to the main album details page and make sure you are adding the right one to your cart.

What are the associated files?
If an album is sold complete with Artwork or Track Listings or a Cue File, this will be included with your album as a separate ZIP file. The cue file will allow you to burn a mix album to CD with full track markings.

Charts

Genre Charts
Click on a genre chart to see the best selling tracks in that genre for the last 7 days as well as an all-time chart for that genre.

DJ Charts

Pretty self-explanatory - these are charts submitted by some of the world's most cutting edge and superstar DJs, oh and sometimes just us mosdownload.com staff, or the knowledgable people at djdownload.com.

Advanced search

Artist & Label
Browsing by Label or Artist will list every label or artist on the site and you can zone in on the ones you are after by clicking the letters on the screen to filter the results to only show labels or artists beginning with that letter.

Promos
Promos are tracks where mosdownload.com has been given the track in advance of the scheduled release date or the track is exclusively available on mosdownload.com.

How can a digital track be limited?
The idea is to give the ordinary DJ a chance of getting the kind of really advance promo you would normally only be able to get if you were on the label's promo mailing list. Limited tracks will have a yellow coloured title throughout the site and, if you hover over the title, you can see exactly how many are left.

A limited track has sold out, what can I do to get it?
You can now pre-order a track if it is sold out. It will sit in your cart but you won't be able to pay for it until it is available again. When more copies become available or the track gets a full release, you will be informed by email. You don't pay anything until you actually check the track out (so no risk!) but it's a great way to make sure you get it as soon as it gets a full release. If you decide you don't want it when it gets the full release, you can just delete it from your cart.

Hot Picks
These are the guaranteed floor destroyers! With our partners like iDJ, our DJs in the club and the staff at djdownload.com we pick what we think are the best tracks available on the site.

Playing samples

The MosDownload.Com Player
The site now comes with it's own player to enhance your experience. It can do loads of cool things to make buying your music easier:

  • If you click on the icon with the little set of headphones on it, you will add that track to the player and it will start playing immediately
  • If you click the playlist icon the track will be added to the bottom of the playlist but the track currently playing will not be interrupted.
  • From the player you can add items directly to your cart (it takes a couple of seconds after you click for it to appear in your cart but it does get there!)
  • Overall, the player functions much like your standard player but you can also see recommendations for the track currently playing and if you want to give that one a go, you can simply click on the up-arrow icon and it will be added to the playlist.

System Default Player
If you don't have Flash or simply don't like our player, the samples on mosdownload.com have an m3u file extension and should launch your player and start playing as you click on the speaker icon. If they don't you may need to change your system defaults to tell your computer what program needs to be used for m3u files.

Downloading

Download Managers
mosdownload.com does not support any download managers. You need to temporarily disable them while using the site or they will cause problems.

Microsoft IE and Windows Media Player
Some users have reported a problem when using Microsoft Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player. The problem exists with Windows XP Service Pack 1 and Media Player version 9 and below. Upgrading to XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Media Player 10 should solve the issues.

Please visit Microsoft Windows Update to install the latest updates and service packs.

I get an error message when trying to download my file. Media bar opens and then crashes. What can I do?
To solve this you need to uncheck 'Play media in the media bar' settings in your media bar. Alternatively, upgrading to Windows Media Player 10 should solve the problem.

I get a box asking if I want to play the file in Internet Explorer. What option should I select?
You should select 'No' and check the 'Remember my preference' box:

If all goes well, what should I see?
You should get a 'save as' box. Select 'Save' and pick a directory to save your mp3 or zip file to. If your download is an album or a particularly large file, this may take a few seconds to appear:

I still get problems with Internet Explorer and Media Player. Do you recommend any alternatives?
A good combination is Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox) and Winamp (http://www.winamp.com). Both of these are available as free downloads.

The Cart / Wishlist

mosdownload.com's shopping cart has been designed to work as a wishlist as well. As you are going through the site, you can add whatever interests you to the cart and then only check out certain tracks and leave the rest in your cart for another day.

What do the "Buy now" checkboxes do?
If you want to only want to buy some of the items in your cart, you don't need to delete them. You can leave them there for next time by simply de-selecting the "Buy now" checkbox for the item you don't want to pay for now.

How do I save what's in my Cart?
The cart is saved automatically. If you leave stuff in it, it will stay there until you check it out or delete it.

Tokens & credits

Download Tokens
Sometimes we will give you download tokens to use against tracks on the site. These do not expire and when you have some, you will see the tokens in your basket on the left of the tracks they can be redeemed against. Some tokens are label specific as they are awarded for your loyalty to a label and others are available for use against any track on the site. They look like little yellow coins, in case you were wondering.

Credit
When you have credit in your account (from a voucher, for example), we will show you the cash value of your credit available on the cart details page. If the value of your purchases exceeds the value of your credit, you will be asked to pay the balance by one of our payment methods. That way, you get to use every last penny.

General FAQ

Why can't I find the label I like?
We have the best independent dance music labels in the world on the site and usually add at least 10 new ones every week. However, there are some big ones that might be missing because they are owned by Major Record companies. We sell MP3 to make sure it is platform independent but unfortunately, the big record companies have a policy not to sell MP3 format so we can't stock labels like Positiva yet... but watch this space.

What is the difference between 192kpbs & 320kpbs?
In a word: quality! The 192 tracks are perfectly good enough to play in clubs or listen to, but if you want that extra bit for the big sound-system, go 320.

Are the tracks constant or variable bit-rate?
All DJDownload tracks are encoded at a constant bit rate.

Can I share the music I buy
Definitely not, file sharing is illegal and will kill the music we love. Please ask your friends to buy their own, it isn't expensive. In fact, if you recommend that one of your friends joins mosdownload.com, we'll give you a free track as soon as they make their first purchase.

Recommend a Friend
You can recommend djdownload.com to one of your friends by going into your "My Account" area and selecting "Recommend a Friend" (right at the bottom, on the left) and entering their email address. If they then register using that email address and select "Friend" for where they heard about mosdownload.com, you'll get a free download token when they buy their first track. Nice.

Purchase History / Invoices
If you're not sure what tracks you've bought in the past - we all have our forgetful moments - under the Help & Information section at the bottom of "My Account", you can click on "Your Order History" and you will get a complete list of everything you have bought. At the top of the screen there is a link to a page where you can set a date range to get an invoice emailed out to you... very useful for presenting to your favourite taxman.

Loading your Player
How do I load my iPod?

Once you have saved the files on your hard drive, simply drag & drop them into iTunes and they will load into your iPod next time you synch it.

I don't have an iPod, what else can I do?
You can load the tracks into any MP3 player including our great Ministry of Sound mp3 players. Just follow the instructions for you player. If you don't have a MP3 player, you can still burn the tracks to CD and play them through a normal hi-fi system... it's up to you.
